The stylesheets support numbering of bibliographic entries, and using those numbers for cross references. If you set the stylesheet parameter bibliography.numbered to nonzero, then the stylesheet will automatically number the entries in your bibliography. The numbering includes any entries pulled in from a bibliography database.
